Introduction To Iyengar Yoga

Description:
This is a great class for first time students who are curious about yoga and want to try it out in a shorter format. Come and experience how yoga can make you feel better, stand taller and help reduce the effects of stress.
Time: 1 hour.


Beginning Classes

Description:
You should enroll in this class if you have never taken a yoga class or a class taught in the Iyengar method. Basic principles, vocabulary and concepts are introduced in these classes. This information is fundamental and important to know in order to move to the next level. Even very experienced students find that they can learn and work hard in this level class. Students should expect to participate in at least two beginning level classes before moving to an intermediate level class. Poses are modified when necessary based on individual student needs.
Time: 1.5 hours.


Intermediate Level Classes

Description:
Students who have experience with the Iyengar method, the basic standing poses and have had an introduction to Sarvangasana (shoulder balance), and understand how they need to set up for the pose, should enroll in these classes. At this level students are expected to have begun to practice regularly on their own. More advanced standing poses are taught as well as introduction to back extensions and forward extensions. When students are competent with Sarvangasana (shoulder balance), Sirsasana (head balance) is introduced. Variations are taught for students who need them.
Time: 1.5 hours.


Women's Class

This class is an intermediate level class for women who have had a minimum of two sessions of Iyengar Yoga.
Time: 1.5 hours


Continuing Level Class

This class is for students with experience who wish to deepen their understanding of yoga. Students should be committed to their own practice, be able to hold inversions for at least 5 minutes and have experience with back bending poses.
Time: 2 hours


Ageless Classes

Description:
This beginning level class is designed for people who wish a slower, more supported introduction to yoga. People with limitations due to age or other reasons should think of this class as their introduction to a method for increasing general body awareness, mobility, strength and alignment. Students are taught to recognize that they can use their awareness to maintain and increase the mobility and strength of their joints and muscles as they age.
Time: 1.5 hours


Philosophy Classes

Description:
This class meets to discuss the principles underlying the practice of yoga. "Light On The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali" and "Light On Life" by B.K.S. Iyengar are the basic texts.
Time - 1 hour


Pre-Natal Yoga

Pregnant women may attend regular classes. Appropriate modifications will be made. You should have your doctor's permission before attending any exercise class.


Iyengar Yoga For Athletes

Description:
This is a fast-paced class is for athletes or people who have a regular workout routine and want to work on balancing their strength with their mobility and who want to work on developing focus and concentration. This class is not currently scheduled, but athletes will find that regular classes will also benefit them, or we can design a class for your group of 6 or more that meets at your convenience.
Time: 1 hour.


Teacher Training

Experienced students of four or more years interested in apprenticing should contact Sue. The teacher study course lasts at least two years and includes weekly class, weekly observation and periodic day-long apprentice meetings.


Exclusive Classes

Description:
We can plan a class for your group of 6 or more to meet at the studio at your convenience. This is an opportunity to reinforce office teamwork, build camaraderie or help your employees relieve stress. We can design the class around your interests; whether your group sits at a desk all day or has specific activities they engage in which generate a need for relief that yoga can provide.
